I just finished my first semester of graduate school (so happy about that!). After a super intense semester I needed a little getaway. So my friend Adri and I took a girls mini-vacation to Palm Springs… one of the best places to just lay by a pool and relax. I’ll admit I have a slight obsession with Palm Springs and the ACE. I feel like I’m experiencing the 1960′s, haha. It’s so laid back, much slower than SF. A girls trip was exactly what we needed. I wished we could have stayed longer and I’m already thinking about when I can go back. Perhaps, a birthday trip will be in order? Anyway, now it’s time to get back to San Francisco. It will be nice getting back to the city. Coming home is always nice. <3

dreaming of apartment bliss.

I have really been itching to redecorate my apartment and was pinning ideas like crazy before school started. Due to lack of funds and time, a total makeover will not be happening anytime soon. But I am going to slap on a fresh coat of paint, declutter, and add some greenery into the mix. First, I’m going to get some friends to come over for a “painting party” (aka a mild form of torture). I’m sure they are dying to attend. I will feed them, make them cocktails, and then my apartment will be freshly painted. It’s amazing how a fresh coat of paint can totally transform a space.

After I have reorganized and painted, I would like to steal this idea and use beakers to spread flowers and greenery throughout the apartment. I fell in love with this idea the moment I saw it and sent the photo to my best friend immediately because it reminded me of her. This will be a clean, simple, and a fairly inexpensive addition.

The one item I would like to save up for and can hopefully thrift and refinish is a new coffee table. The style of the coffee table above is what I will be looking for. Initially, I wanted a vintage  slated coffee table like this one. Unfortunately, most of the ones I found in my price range measure too long  and will not work in my space. If I can find a one less lengthy at a less taxing price, I will go for it. If not, I think a round coffee table will be the perfect solution.

Okay, so these plant stands are expensive but I had to share them because they are so awesome. I may not be able to get the stands, unless I can thrift something similar. but some pots and plants are doable. The tricky part will be keeping the plants alive! Let’s just say I was not blessed with a green thumb. Any tips?

When I first moved to San Francisco I dreamt of finding the quintessential SF apartment complete with hardwood floors, bay windows, and a ton of charm. Well, I got the hardwood floors but that bay windows and charm were out. Yet I cannot complain because the clean lines have grown on me, I scored the hardwood floors, and it’s rent controlled (ah, the dream). So needless to say in my apartment I stay. I love the inspiration room above: the huge tree-like plant, natural elements, textures, and that rug! I am going to keep the simplicity of the two rooms posted in mind as I slowly acquire new items for the apartment. However, I can’t help but wish I could start over and redecorate the whole space. One can dream…

It has been quite awhile since my last post. To be honest, I was going back and forth about whether to stop this blog altogether or start fresh with a new one. Then, I realized that I really enjoy having a blog so quitting was not the best choice and my friends said that I have too much content to start over. I agree. Much change and growth has been documented on this blog so it’s something I have decided to continue. The only thing is I’m not sure how often I will be able to post once graduate school begins. As mentioned in the previous post, I applied to graduate school and got in! I will start working on my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership at UC Berkeley this summer. I’m beyond thrilled! Things are definitely on the up and up.

I thought I would share the good news and some photos of a few of my favorite things: beautiful white roses and greenery from an amazing friend, minerals from my best friend Chime (check her blog out at chimeblahblah), and a little air plant from Paxton Gate, a store worth checking out if you’re ever roaming around the Mission District. Just a few things that make me smile.

P.S. I hope to start posting outfits again soon. I keep saying I’m going to set up a tripod in my apartment, but my laziness prevents that from becoming a reality. Plus, most of the time I’m wearing overalls anyway. I guess it’s time for an overalls post?

work has been beyond hectic lately and after spending most of my weekend writing and revising essays for my graduate school applications, i am definitely ready for a break. but i wanted to make sure i was satisfied with my personal statement and essay questions before leaving so that i can really relax. mission accomplished. it will be so nice to hop on a plane tomorrow morning and head out to socal to visit my family. i’m excited about spending thanksgiving with them and eating all of the awesome food my mom prepares. have a happy thanksgiving! i know i will. xo

yesterday i spent the afternoon at the de young with some friends. i was waiting for the david hockney exhibit for a couple of months so i was really excited to check it out. it was amazing! seriously, i was smiling the whole time. as a matter of fact, i think i’m going to have to check it out a second time before the exhibition ends in january. going to museums is a favorite pastime of mine. therefore, i finally took advantage of the teacher discount and got a membership to the de young and the legion of honor. now i can go as often as i want and special exhibits will not cost nearly as much. also, i figure when i start graduate school (still applying… stressful)  i can study at the cafe and then walk around the museum afterwards. win/win.

i thought this graphic rainbow colored painting was the perfect backdrop for an outfit shot. ah, i wish i could hang it in my apartment. anyway, i’m off today so it’s time to take advantage of the weather and go for a hike. tata!

i had the BEST time last weekend celebrating my birthday with my dear friend lerrie and a bunch of new friends. they were all so awesome and we had so much fun together. the only one missing was our best friend chime. lerrie and i really missed her.

we stayed at the ace hotel (thanks to kenneth!) and spent most of our time hanging out by the pool. it was really relaxing and the people were amazing: smart, stylish, interesting, and super fun. i really wanted to have a wonderful birthday and it happened through this trip. this year has been a major transitional period in my life and i have grown a ton, which is great. but sometimes growing is hard and i just needed a vacation from it all. i needed a change of scenery, if only for a couple of days.  it was nice to leave everything behind, meet new people, and let loose in palm springs for the weekend. we kept saying “what happens in palm springs stays in palm springs.” but that wasn’t really the case considering we all blew up instagram like it was going out of style.

this trip really was the perfect way to ring in 32!

riverlane.

as i mentioned in this post i was in guerneville last weekend for a wedding. we all stayed at the riverlane resort where we spent our days lounging around the pool, barbecuing, and sipping cocktails. it was so nice getting out of the city. i need to remind myself to get out of the city more often. there are so many awesome places to go within a couple hours of san francisco that i have yet to explore. seriously i’ve been talking about going camping for months and i just never seem to get it together. maybe i’m more of a “camping” in a cabin kind of a girl. according to my friend david, we were camping (haha, we weren’t exactly roughing it). close enough for now, but a trip to big sur needs to happen in the near future. i really want to check out the henry miller memorial library, especially after reading big sur and the oranges of hieronymus bosch.

anyway since i taught summer school i didn’t really get a vacation, so relaxing at the river for a few days was perfect. AND i have another mini vacation coming up! this friday is my birthday and i’m flying to la to spend the day with my mom before heading to palm springs with friends. woo-hoo! i’m so ready.
