outside lands.

my friend rachel and i went to outside lands a couple of weeks back. rachel was given a vip wristband and i used my friend’s ticket… woo woo! rachel and i had an awesome time hanging out, eating a bunch, and meeting new people. i have to admit that i wasn’t the hugest fan of most of the bands that played, but i still danced around anyway. it was sort of a bro fest when red hot chili peppers went on and i was hoping that they would play more from the blood, sugar, sex, magik album (the only album i really like). they still sounded good live, offered up some 90′s nostalgia (i’m obsessed with the 90′s as of late), and we got in for FREE so i can’t complain. rachel and i had so much fun together (thanks, rach!!). all in all, it was a memorable adventure!

the dandy warhols.

last thursday night amy and i went to see the dandy warhols at the fillmore. they were so awesome! they played a really long set and had great stage presence. i love listening to them and trying to figure out their musical influences. i like to think some influences include pulp, sonic youth, david bowie, and blur. but what the heck do i know?

this was the first time i had ever been to the fillmore. i really liked the venue and enjoyed looking at all the old, original photographs of musicians who have played there in the past. naturally, i gravitated to the photo of courtney love from 1994 when hole played the fillmore while touring the live through this album (still one of my favorites). i would have LOVED to have been in the audience for that show. i’m sure there were plastic doll parts and baby doll dresses galore. anyone who knows me can attest to the fact that i was straight up obsessed with hole and i mean obsessed. i did see them three times, but not in 1994 when live through this first emerged (mom said i was too young). to make up for it i often watch live performances on youtube.

performing asking for it (chicago 1994).

the dress.

this is my new favorite dress! my in-laws, whom i love dearly, got it for me for christmas. i love the missoni inspired print and the fact that it was nowhere near missoni prices. the title of this post is an allusion to the blonde redhead song called, none other than, “the dress”. they are probably my favorite band of all time. i’m seriously obsessed with kazu (as most of my closest girlfriends are): her style, her voice, her overall presence. check out her dress in the video… she always wears the best dresses! she’s definitely a style icon in my eyes.

don’t let the dress trick you…

lyrics:

tears you see on my face, you do have something to do with
fear starts creeping up when you have so much to lose
your love waits you while you’re cheating
lightning strikes you when you’re moving
the light you see in my eyes, you do have something to do with
play the game namely love, play it like you have nothing to lose
horse loves you when you move with him
people hate you when you’re changing

don’t let the dress trick you
i love you less now that i know you
i won’t count the scars again
i love you less now that i know you

the glow you see on my face, you do have something to do with
fear starts creeping up when you have so much to lose
your love waits you while you’re cheating
lighting strikes you when you’re moving

don’t let me wonder away
i love you less now that i know you
don’t let the dress trick you
i love you less now that i know you

i won’t count the scars again
because i love you

brian’s new do.

brian got a haircut and i did it for him! naturally i was complaining the entire time, as i always do when i cut his hair. i feel so much pressure! you are probably thinking, “why doesn’t he just go get his haircut professionally?” well, he refuses… errr. in the process, he always assures me that he doesn’t care how it turns out, which i cannot believe! he’s telling the truth- i just don’t get it. i always respond with, “well, i care!” i don’t want to butcher his hair and then have our friends look at him, like “daaamn, what did she do?!” anyway, i have been trying to convince him to try something new and he finally concurred. it came out quite nicely if i do say so myself. in typical brian fashion, he acts like he doesn’t want to have a “hair style” because that means he will have to give his hair some attention… but i know he secretly loves it. in the end, i learned that i need to stop complaining. he is such a wonderful guy and he does so much for me, including his new occupation as blog photographer extraordinaire. so the least i can do is cut his darn hair without complaining!

here’s his new do…

shirt: american apparel   cardigan: urbn (similar here and here)   jeans: levis/thrifted   beat to hell, vegan-friendly canvas shoes (he told me i had to post his shoes since i always post mine. i said “those beat up things”… his response: “YES!”)

…..

i really love the way brian dresses- he has great personal style. so while we were at anne’s new condo i wanted to take some pictures of him. anne looked at our outfits and said, “you look like the perfect hipster couple.” i think both brian and i just about had a heart attack! okay, perhaps i’m being a little dramatic. it’s funny… i have to admit our reaction reminds me of the t-shirt that says, “i’m not a hipster, i just dress like one.” when i gasped at her comment, anne said, “it isn’t a bad thing.” what do you think? i guess there aren’t many self-proclaimed hipsters. i certainly don’t consider us to be, but perhaps in some respects the saying on that t-shirt speaks for itself.

we were at anne’s having a cocktail before heading to dinner at a place called hola! in burlingame for our friend jen’s b-day.

this is what i wore…

JUMPING FOR JOY!

thigh highs:american apparel   dress: f21  shoes: american apparel (similar here)  jacket: old navy   scarf:jcrew  watch: michael kors

…..

i would describe my outfit as a combination of preppy ballerina and ice skating queen! one thing i will say is that the thigh highs were so warm and cozy because of the thick, sweater-like material. i will definitely be investing in more. if you love thigh highs, pick up a similar pair here!

i couldn’t resist…
