yesterday was so much fun! anne, rachel, amy, and i spent the better part of the afternoon in dolores park eating snacks and drinking wine. it was the perfect way to kick off summer. i can’t wait to go on some trips with my gals. we’re all excited about summer and the positive changes headed our way. so naturally, we had a mini celebration in the park. cheers to friendship and new beginnings.

go giants!

last night my friend amy and i went to our first giants game. we were super laggers and only made it for the last two innings. but we did make it in time to grab some beers. priorities! we had fun even though the giants lost the game. afterwards we ended the night with escape from new york pizza and another beer in the neighborhood. ah, the guilt. we had such a great time so it was worth it. but i have to admit a major run is on my agenda tonight!

so today when i was on my prep period (not working on the grading i should have been working on and wishing i could take another vacation/trying to figure out how to afford to go back to nyc) i stumbled upon some photos from my trip that i hadn’t posted. it was so nice seeing friends and checking out a new place. i want to go back to explore more of the city and the museums! i’m hoping to teach summer school so i just may be able to swing another visit sometime soon-ish. until then, a girl can dream (and enjoy the beautiful sf weather).

what’s in a name?

well in the case of my blog name two best friends running around the streets of san francisco singing past the mission by tori amos. a few years back chime and i came to san francisco for a long weekend. i remember the weather was perfect- no jackets needed, even at night. that’s big here! anyway, we stayed with her cousin in the mission district and spent the weekend walking around the city, shopping downtown, enjoying some cocktails (as evidenced above), dancing a ton, and brunching at boogaloo’s. with all that time spent in the mission, one thing led to another and we were singing the song. it was just fitting. seriously, we had THE best time on that trip. we still talk about it to this day. it was the first time i had ever stayed in the mission and i fell in love with the neighborhood. it was also that trip that made me think brian and i should check out places in the neighborhood. now here we are almost four years later.

so when i started thinking of blog names a little over a year ago, i thought of the fond memories from that trip and laughed. i thought, hmmm… “past the mission, i like it”. the name speaks to where i am in my life right now and it’s based on good memories from the past. pretty song too. sing it… past the mission and i smell the roses.

i just got back from a weekend trip to san luis obispo. anne‘s family invited me to join in on their little trip down the central coast. it was nice! we dropped by the mission and a museum, visited quant beach towns, and shopped around a bit. i found some really good deals while shopping in downtown san luis obispo so i was pretty excited about that! i found a black chiffon maxi skirt at urban outfitters and a pretty shift dress from gap. both are great basics that fit well and were super reasonable (about 15 bucks each). i’ll be taking the maxi skirt to nyc next month. it will be great to wear over doubled up tights. oh and that brings me to another point (or promise i’m making myself). no more shopping for clothes/accessories until nyc… no matter how good the deal may be. i’m officially on hiatus!
