can i just say i’m so glad it’s saturday? i’m so happy that i’m just sitting on the sofa and typing a blog post wrapped in a cozy sweater, especially after an extra busy week of teaching. i realize i have never mentioned what i do for a living on the blog. i’m an english teacher! so my week was filled with preparing literary period power points (specifically on romanticism/dark romanticism and realism), writing final examination study guides, and grading like a mad woman.

i’ve decided that it’s time to reveal more about myself beyond the outfits i wear and the foods i eat. haha! i’m always curious to know what other bloggers do outside of writing their blogs. so just in case you’re curious, i currently teach advanced placement literature and composition, american literature, and european literature. at this point in my career i can honestly say that i love what i’m doing. this is my sixth and best year teaching. my day is spent instructing students on how to look at literature with a critical eye and write with a convincing and stylistic voice. it’s been pretty awesome lately. however, i’m not trying to paint the picture that my job is all peaches and cream. working in public education can be tough! but i like being in the classroom educating students so the good outweighs the bad (ahem… politics) most of the time.

anyhoo, winter break is just around the corner and i’m very excited about it! today brian and i are going to get our christmas tree and i can’t wait to get it home and decorate it! a couple of friends are going to drop by to help decorate the tree (if i don’t finish before they get here. hehe), play games, and eat lentil stew. mmm. have a relaxing weekend!

good morning! these photos were snapped friday afternoon right before i was about to head out for a laid back evening of sushi and drinks. i really wanted to have our kitties in the photos. let’s just say there weren’t many photos to choose from because bowie bathed pretty much the entire time (she’s so cute!) and she wasn’t exactly feeling it. cream puff hates really dislikes being held, although in the last photo she made it appear for a split second as if it didn’t bother her too much. after that split second she poked a little hole in my new shirt. gosh darn kitties! i love them no matter what shirts they poke holes in or how many pieces of furniture they destroy (not that it thrills me). i have to admit i’m jealous that i’m off to work and they get to nap all day… lucky girls!

“summer” has finally arrived here in san francisco and i’m stuck at work when i would much rather be enjoying a tasty beverage at the beach. sheeesh!

in the rose garden (part two).

i couldn’t resist adding another one of our fuzzy friends. we took far too many photos of the squirrels but they were so dang cute that we couldn’t resist.

cheers!

hey everyone! as i mentioned here brian, amy, and i went to the morcom municipal rose garden on sunday afternoon where they sipped on beers and i sipped on coca cola classic. i definitely recommend checking out this delightful garden! my plan is to return in may for a picnic when the flowers have just blossomed and are flourishing as far as the eye can see. the garden is peaceful, beautiful, and tucked away in a quaint oakland neighborhood. oh and another awesome point to acknowledge is that it’s free! which is always a plus in my book and i’m sure i’m not the only one. i’m not going to lie, the past few weeks have been stressful to say the least. so as i mentioned here i have been a major homebody which has allowed me to nest and decompress. but when i do decide to get out, i want to take in the fresh air and take in some scenic pleasures which fortunately there is a surplus of in the bay area.

amy was nice enough to let me take some style photos of her while we walked through the rose gardens. truth be told, i would love to use this blog to not only showcase my personal style, but to show a variety of perspectives on style and fashion- friends and strangers alike. here’s the problem: i don’t have the guts to ask people on the street. i think that the mission district (my neighborhood!) has some of the best street style in the city (oh, hayes valley has some stylish gals and gents as well). i guess i’m going to have to try to work up the courage to ask people and have them not think i’m a total weirdo. until that happens, if it ever does, i’m lucky enough to have some very stylish friends that give me permission to photograph them and post their sartorial choices. as far as amy’s look is concerned, i really appreciate this casual menswear inspired look, from the laid back cotton slack-style pants to the denim vest to the ankle booties. it’s a great look for her and it has inspired me to try some menswear inspired looks. these looks are all the rage right now! i love trends that are timeless and classic, reemerging time and time again and menswear inspired styles definitely meet that criteria.

i hope you enjoyed seeing amy’s outfit. she definitely has great personal style!

joyride.

hey everyone! i hope you are all well. as for me, lately i’ve been on a major fitness kick and have been doing pretty well. remember how i said i would like to run the sf half marathon? well, training has officially begun. this fitness mission has been my first priority as of late. and contrary to popular belief (AHEM those of my husband and some of my friends) i’ve actually been riding my bike to work and i’ve been loving it! granted i do show up to work looking a little windblown, but that’s okay. the key is getting to work before everyone else so i can freshen up.

anyway, it’s been quite nice getting use out of my new bike, getting some extra exercise in, and decompressing while riding home from work. and yes, i wear a helmet, but of course i didn’t want to be pictured in that dorky thing. as for the ride, it can be a bit challenging due to the hills, especially on a single speed. but those inclines will only make me stronger and stronger (at least that’s what i tell myself as i’m huffing and puffing and sweating like mad). on my third day riding to work, i actually made it up the steep hill that comes just before the conclusion of my ride. some real cyclists zoomed by me and said “good job.” i thought, “i about died, but i did it!”

flower power.

dress: f21 (last seen here)  shoes: target (last summer)  sweater: gap  bangles: thrifted  pin: vintage  bag: gyrson for target (really old)  watch: michael kors (gifted)  sunnies: anthro

the only things that made this outfit look less pajama-like were the flower pin and wedges. i was super cozy all day long and that’s just the way i like it!  the best part about this outfit, aside from the cozy factor, is that all together it was around forty dollars, shoes and bag included. gotta love that!

keepers.

the story behind the frog:

i have always been a fan of pins. lately i’ve gone from a pin fan to full-fledged pin stalker, especially after i found this frog pin at the jcrew factory store in napa. i was digging through a canister of sale accessories and found it for 3 dollars! i adore it. now i’m always on the hunt for adorable pins.

actually the day i wore this outfit we went thrifting and i picked up three vintage pins. i’m currently mad about pins and on the lookout for a turtle to add to the collection. :)

sweater/froggy pin: jcrew factory  dress: forever 21 (only 10.80 and super cozy/versatile) bag: gap shoes: steve madden pembrook  sunglasses: anthropologie

so many of my friends and my husband alike are openly opposed to the sunglasses i’m wearing in this post. brian can’t stand them! he always says, “they make your eyes look too close together.” no matter how many times i try to sell them, he’s just not having them. amy said “i think you’ve got guts wearing those.” and anne said “they’re not my favorite. that’s for sure.” but i have to say i still love them to pieces! so despite all comments to the contrary, i think these sunglasses are lovely. they’re keepers, even if my eyes look too close together!

mermaid tears.

today was the first morning i actually shot an outfit before going to work. it wasn’t too bad. brian was so sweet to take the photos for me. maybe this will start an outfit shoot in the morning trend.

so i just have to say i’m jazzed about this opi nail polish called mermaid tears. i love the color and the name. i’m pretty sure it’s my new favorite. i also love orange!

what about you? orange you mad about orange this spring?

i couldn’t resist. yep. total dork.
