hi everyone! it’s been awhile. getting outfits shot has proven to be extremely difficult lately. i’m looking forward to longer days! about this outfit, i really enjoyed wearing it since the fabric and ease made me feel like i was walking around in pajamas all day. also, the details of stripes and polka dot tights, black and copper, finished with a top knot and red lips gave the look an edgy yet sophisticated feel. i have to note that this blog has helped me refine my style and learn, even more so, what works for me and what doesn’t. i feel most confident in classic looks (ahem, stripes, black, navy, seas of booties, high waist skirts) so i gravitate toward them. hey it’s always nice to have tried and true go-to looks, right?

p.s. i’ve gone on a monthly shopping budget that i’m really trying to stick to. but i had to tell you all that j.crew and madewell are having an extra 40% off sale. and yes i ordered something. damn it! went over budget by 30 bucks. fail.

well today was my first day back after a two week vacation and i’m exhausted! for some reason or another, i can never sleep the night before we return from break. i’m so anxious about the next day and i just toss and turn all night. well, until about 3 or 4am at which point i fall asleep and have to wake right back up within a couple of hours. the whole thing is beyond frustrating! it’s funny how one can toss and turn most of the night away- i mean can’t sleep a wink until it’s just about time for the alarm to go off and then somehow deep sleep kicks in. somehow my brain shuts down in the wee hours of morning. seriously, i could have slept the entire morning away but nope had to get moving and guzzle copious amounts of coffee in order to do so. it’s completely ridiculous too because what the hell am i so worried about anyway? i’ve been teaching for six years now in my own classroom and have worked in public schools for much longer. i know what to expect. i guess i’m just expecting the unexpected. does that ever happen to you? ultimately, nothing out of the ordinary happened and it was a really good day. will the same thing happen the night before spring break ends? more than likely. ugh, lame. i guess that’s what naps are for. so it’s nap time!

okay, i will be the first to admit that i’m not the thrift shopper i once was. however, i still couldn’t resist ripping off morrissey’s lyrics and making them cater to this blog post, haha… total nerd! anyway, yesterday was such a lovely day! anne and i went for coffee at philz, hit some thrift shops, and grabbed lunch and dinner. let me tell you anne was HOT at the thrift stores and i, on the other hand, was not. she found me the cutest (almost new) bcbg maxazria skirt for 7.50 and the cutest high waisted plaid skirt for herself for 6.50! it’s finds like those that make me want to run out to the thrift stores again today with my good luck charm anne, haha. to be fair, i did find her a pair of super cute vintage wedges at thrift town. i’m really going to hit the thrift stores more often (with claritin ready to go… the dust is killer). it’s time to get a little thrifty and live up to my blog title! i think i may need to drag brian out for some coffee and thrifting today… round two.

as for the rest of the weekend, i need to prepare for getting back to the grind. i already got a great deal of lesson planning done the other night but i still have some activities and notes to create. i’ll be teaching the stranger, the metamorphosis, the crucible, and reviewing the ap winter break reading, the scarlet letter. i’m going to be one busy english teacher. this vacation was much needed and very rejuvenating, so i think i’m ready to go back on monday. have a good weekend! shoes

this outfit is a little match-y match-y i know, but for some reason that’s sort of my thing right now. these photos were snapped just before sundown on saturday afternoon, right before i went home for the evening and watched “the september issue” and “the lonesome crowed west” documentary in pjs. i’m on a serious documentary kick right now… biopics too. tomorrow i’m renting “coco before chanel” which i’m looking forward to watching (can’t believe i haven’t seen that one yet). i’m going to cherish the final days of my stay-cation!

well so long 2012 and hello 2013! i have to say 2012 was quite a good year for me filled with several firsts. i ran my first sf half marathon and bay to breakers race, started this little blog, brian and i celebrated our ninth year of marriage, and started teaching the ap literature class which i thoroughly enjoy. i’m looking forward to the new year too. being the goal oriented person that i am i have some goals i would like to accomplish this year: a blog redesign (have no clue at this point as to how or when), another big run (i’m not sure i can commit to a full marathon but i’m thinking about training for one… if not, another half for sure), and i want to strengthen my ap lit and comp curriculm. oh, and brian and i would like to start playing music together again. lots of plans so we shall see what pans out but i’m excited nonetheless. now, it’s time to head out to golden gate park for my friend’s birthday picnic. happy 2013!

it was so nice to see my bestie last week! since we live so far away from each other we don’t get to hangout as often which is a bummer. so we made sure to get in some quality time over the holiday along with our friends anne, lerrianne, belia, and amy (instagram magic to follow) in downtown riverside. we grabbed lunch at simple simon’s, took a little train ride, and checked out a museum. we all had so much fun!

i decided it was time to bring bangs back! some more ch-ch-changes. we just got back from a road trip that i sort of romanticized in my head before we left. but after dealing the with insane holiday traffic and spending over ten hours in the car yesterday, i have to say never again. next time we’ll fly! anyway, i’ve got lots of cool photos to share including an outfit post of my best friend! but for now it’s time to go grocery shopping, run errands, and go running. hope you had a wonderful holiday!

lately i’ve had the toughest time finding the right boyfriend jeans and i have to say that was not always the case. a couple of years back i always had boyfriend jeans on rotation. i would wear them out to the point when i would have to cut them into shorts and then visit gap again to buy a new pair. that was until gap stopped carrying the original bf cut and created the “sexy” bf. but here’s the problem: i’m not trying to be sexy when wearing boyfriend jeans! i don’t want them super tight and extra cropped with a high rise! the entire principle behind the boyfriend jean is the slouchy, relaxed, and extra comfortable fit. if i wanted cropped skinny jeans i would buy some cropped skinny jeans. duh, gap. get it together!

since i could no longer find the ones i loved so much at the gap, a serious boyfriend hunt began to no avail for quite some time. eventually i found some potential boyfriends but they were all over $150 and i just couldn’t bring myself to pay that. so i was stoked when i scored these from anthro on super sale (originally 128, purchased at 44 after an extra 25% off sale price). and that’s how i finally got my boyfriend back!

i’ve been back on my running schedule and i’m hoping to whip myself back into shape in no time. my goal is to run at least 15 miles per week to start and go up from there. it’s so important that i run because it does so much for me in the way of stress relief and mood elevation. i always feel more motivated, uplifted, and have more willingness to be extra productive after a workout. the thing is: i’m sort of an all or nothing person sometimes. so if i fall of the workout wagon for even a couple of weeks, my running can become haphazard at best. therefore, i’ve decided that it’s time to make running my top priority again. nine miles down so far this week and i will be hitting the pavement after work this evening to make twelve. i’m getting back on track!
